Sunday Funday – Lucky’s Pub

Super Bowl Sunday delayed this post by a day. When you have a full day of drinking that started at 10:00 AM, it was important to pace myself. Also, I’m pretty sure this post would have been incoherent, so waiting a day was a solid choice.

The day started not with Carolina vs. Denver, but with Chelsea vs. Manchester United. One of the best things about being at Lucky’s in the Houston Heights is the choice of beer was solid enough to keep me thinking about what my next one would be.

B-52 LogoStarting off the morning with a B-52 Breakfast Stout was a wise decision. It was like having a chilled coffee to start the day. The coffee flavor upon first sip is strong and it has a slight bitterness that transitions to a dark chocolate body and finishes dry and clean. Deceptively clocking in at 7.6% ABV, it tastes more like a morning warmer that works well as an early morning brew.

Sticking with B-52, the next brew chosen was B-52 Wingman Wheat IPA. Drastically different than the Breakfast Stout, this refreshing sessionable IPA has the Citra hops very evident on the nose, but the carbonated citrus flavor makes this a clean tasting, balanced IPA. Not overly hoppy, but the dry finish leaves your palette clean and yearning for more.

After having a wonderful IPA, I decided to stick with the style and go with the (512) IPA. Different from the B-52 version, this beer has more of a resiny characteristic. More hoppy than the Wingman Wheat, this brew is truly an all-American IPA that gives more of an apricot flavor than other IPAs.

Ultimately, the beer was great, the atmosphere was terrific with well over 100 people in attendance, and the result was satisfying with Chelsea coming back to draw in extra time.
