Gross. Even I know this is gross.
Frankly, I don’t care. On a day when my beloved Chelsea FC got knocked out of the Champions League, I had to be a fatty. When I looked in my fridge to see what would pair well with the Hostess cup cakes I bought, I knew Karbach Three Legged Lab was the winner.
The imperial stout has a deep roasted malt flavor that is complemented well by the chocolate of the cup cake. I tend to get a bitter dark chocolate flavor from the brew. To balance that out, take a huge bite of the cup cake so you get the vanilla creme filling. You will intensify the dark chocolate notes and truly enjoy the beer much more than by drinking it by itself.
Honestly, I wasn’t much of a fan of Three Legged Lab when it first came out. I thought it was an average stout that didn’t have any distinguishing flavor. However, I found it much more enjoyable having it with the cup cakes. If you get a chance to try it with some cup cakes or any chocolate cake, do it. So go ahead, indulge your inner fat kid.
