Beer Run – H-E-B Vintage Park

You know what makes a family reunion better? Beer. And lots of it.

I’m fortunate that I love my family very much and they’re a ton of fun. Of course, being outside by a pool in 100 degree heat calls for some refreshing beverages. Obviously, I had to find some beers that are lighter and easier to drink. With a great selection of summer seasonals, H-E-B Vintage Park had the hook-up.

My parents live about 2 miles away from this H-E-B and the beer selection is top notch. On one side of the shelf was a ton of craft beer from around the country, but on the other was an entire section of craft beer made in the great state of Texas.

The first thing I put in the shopping cart was the new IPA from Independence, Liberty Lunch. I’ve heard so many good things about this IPA and it didn’t disappoint. Different from Stash, it’s much more dank, yet feels like a lighter drink than other IPAs.

The Alamo Maibock is a favorite of mine. When I took a trip to San Antonio last month, this was the star of their lineup. This is one that I’m saving for enjoying at the house instead of drinking in the heat. I find it is best enjoyed at more comfortable temperatures due to a slightly higher ABV.

Independence White Rabbit and Oasis Slow Ride are two sessionable beers that are favorites of mine. These are usual mainstays in my fridge during the summer months.

I was very thrilled to find the new seasonal from Southern Star, their Summer Saison. Rebranded from the former name of Walloon, this farmhouse ale has a sweet flavor and it tastes similar to a hefeweizen due to its banana and clove aftertaste. This ended up being the star of the show as it was the one I recommended to my brother-in-law, who is learning more about craft beer.

Finally, the last score of the beer run was No Label’s new seasonal wit, Forbidden Lavender. Instead of using coriander in the recipe, they chose to use lavender. The floral notes are very heavy, but still enjoyable.

The northwest Houston area is covered well with the selection at H-E-B Vintage Park. This ought to be a regular visit for me each time I visit my family in town.
